Twee Artsen is a historic barge, in full cruising order, providing a spacious, impressive and comfortable home in central London. She is one of the historic vessels that occupy Hermitage Moorings - a short walk from Tower Bridge - a unique residential community of Doctors, Artists, Scientists and Teachers who cooperatively own and run the mooring. Access is through a private security gate off the Western end of Wapping High Street (E1W), alongside Hermitage Memorial Gardens. There is a Moorings Manager and a clubhouse usable by all residents for both communal and private use. A committee of residents runs the affairs of the mooring and all are encouraged to participate in this close-knit ‘village’ in the heart of London. A sense of Hermitage is best gained by looking at the Community website: http://www.hermitagemoorings.com/
Twee Artsen was built as a single mast klipperaak by the brothers Appelo at Zwartsluis, Holland in 1906. She was de-rigged and motorised during her working life, with the addition of an engine and wheelhouse. She was also lengthened to increase cargo-carrying capacity. While in trade, she carried a variety of loose cargo such as grain, potatoes and gravel. Her last commercial voyage was in the 1970s, before she was lovingly converted to a residential boat. The space is a now a stunning home in central London, within sight of Tower Bridge.
Boarding
You board through the wheelhouse, where fitted seating and a removable table provide four people superb options for summer dining while enjoying a panoramic view of the river Thames, Tower Bridge and the Shard.
'Roef' Cabin
Hardwood steps go down to the ‘roef cabin’ containing a half bathroom behind hardwood bifold doors, and through another sliding door, with stained glass, to the kitchen, which has a dual oven, induction hob, dishwasher and lots of storage.
Stern Office/Spare Cabin
There are steps aft from this level to the stern office/spare cabin which was installed in 2018 and has hardwood flooring with underfloor heating and a custom built semicircular leather seat. This space has a drop down desk and the seat which converts into a comfortable double bed. Behind each section of the seating is a large amount of built-in storage.
Kitchen and Living Room
Further steps down from the kitchen leading forward, take you to the impressive living/dining room with high peaked ceiling made from the original hatch boards, oak floor, built in cabinets and ceiling mounted projector with surround sound (if purchaser would like, this could be included with negotiation). There is additional large built-in storage behind a hidden panel in the wall which leads to the engine room.
Sleeping / Bathroom and Workshop Areas
Forward from the living room is the corridor from which you access the bathroom with washer and dryer, master bedroom, spare bedroom and the workshop which has potential to conversion to additional bedroom/bathroom. Behind the bulkhead door in the workshop is a the bow locker room with steps up onto the large solid wood deck area, providing stunning views over the river for barbecues and outdoor dining.
