Description

German built in 1928, ‘Jan Steen’ ( originally called ‘Yante’ or ‘Johnny’) was formerly a supply vessel to the Borkum islands, hence her unique proportions.
Featured in the Borkum Museum as a Historical ship with a fascinating past as a cargo and passenger vessel. See photos.
Previously moored in Loosdrecht, Netherlands, she was brought over to the UK in 2012.
Sympathetically converted by ourselves into a comfortable, stylish home whilst also being maintained as a fully self-sufficient sea-going vessel.
We have taken time and expense to source fittings from salvaged ships and have created a sympathetic but very comfortable Liveaboard.
Jan Steen is as much at home on the high seas as on the canals of Northern Europe. A beautiful and rare ship, she is a one-of-a-kind barge. Stocky but with a wide beam, she feels spacious and light but is compact enough to feel cosy and is very easy to manoeuvre. Her varnished wheelhouse is the perfect spot for enjoying a panoramic view of river life and the large foredeck is ideal for bbqs, lounging and jumping in for a wild swim.

Accommodation

Jan Steen comprises of 2x Cabins in the bow and 1x Captain’s Cabin in the stern.
Recently refurbished large open-plan saloon and galley. 1x full bathroom with electric toilet and shower in the bow, 1x additional shower room in galley, 1x toilet in stern cabin.
Main cabin tongue-and grooved, built-in superking bed with under bed storage. Pure wool carpet. Two brass opening portholes and a bow hatch to let in light and air. Television socket. Salvaged mini bulkhead light and two wall lights. Storage in mast steel. Column radiator.

Hatch in floor enables access to huge storage area in bilges in addition to housing two substantial water tanks and hot water boiler.
Huge galley with stainless steel worktops and breakfast bar. Stainless steel oven and wooden front cupboards and drawers with brass handles. Bespoke shelving surrounding microwave. Large stainless steel sink with Perrin and Rowe taps and spray. Integrated stainless steel front dishwasher.

Small helmsman wall-hung fold-down stool from Toplichte, beneath which is access hatch to Engine Room.

Sails & Spars

Spar mast can be used as a Davit to lower and retrieve dinghy. Can also be lowered for bridges.
