General Information
Boat Dimensions: 59ft long, 11ft wide. Plenty of headroom inside (I am 6ft 1" and can jump without hitting my head)
Construction: Steel
Hull Shape: Displacement
Engine: Perkins inboard engine (New 2003) Regularly serviced annually since.
Cooling System: direct
Machinery Drive: conventional shaft drive
Fuel Fuel Capacity: Diesel 400 litres
Fresh water: 330 gallons
Holding tank: yes
Steering position: non flybridge
The helm is simply a long handle connected directly to the rudder. The rudder is actually a “box” shape which utilises prop thrust to assist steering giving Trouper a nice tight turning circle. Stern area is protected by a capped safety rail a steel and polycarbonate canopy, or "bimini" if you're feeling fancy.
Hull: Heavy sole plate 15mm construction allows for ballast to be reduced. As ballasted it weighs between 24 and 25 tonnes.
Deck / Superstructure: Steel 6mm/4mm.
The engine is a 67 hp Perkins diesel 700 series built in 2003.
Serial No: UA 36946 U 828807 7
The gearbox is a Newage PRM 260 D2. Serial No: 0512813 FOO902.
Engine Cooling: The engine is cooled by a closed water system (does not take water from the river) with a small header tank. Use anti-freeze in winter.
The tiller bearing was replaced in 2021.
The fuel was professionally polished and 500 litres added in Dec 2025. All fuel lines and cooling systems flushed and cleaned.
Heating
There are 2 radiators located in the bathroom and sleeping cabin. These are centrally heated from a diesel water heater (a newly installed Eberspacher) with a remote switch in the bedroom cabin for convenience.
There is also a new professionally installed solid fuel stove in the saloon. It's an Arada Chelsea Duo https://www.aradastovesandspares.com/stove-summary.php?stove=CHELSEADUOM-S4
Hot Water: There is an insulated hot water tank in the stern hatch. Water heats via the engine, via the mains, or via the Eberspacher.
Windows: Caldwell of Worcester
Electrics
New 12v wiring system inc. a Sterling charge controller and battery management system: 2020
12v batteries in stern compartment – fed by solar panels, alternator or mains charger (mounted near battery)
Electric - 240 V / electrical switching
Solar panels: 2 x 200w panels installed. Up to 6 LG 300 watt panels extra are available if desired.
The fuse box is located just inside the stern door on the starboard side. The fuses are trip switches.
Trouper has been designed as an off-grid houseboat and has been lived on comfortably as such for the past 10 years.
On entry: a workshop space with workbench and ample room for storage. It was originally s separate sleeping cabin but this had been removed when I bought it. I found the workspace more useful to my lifestyle, but it would be easy enough to reinstate a 2nd sleeping cabin if that was desired.
Accommodation: Fixed double in separate sleeping cabin
Forward Lounge: L-Shaped Ikea sofa bed (extends into comfortable king size bed - a comfortable winter bunk if you prefer woodburner proximity)
Galley
The galley is open plan and attached to the saloon. It contains an LPG full size Rangemaster cooker and Belfast sink. Solid wood table and dresser. Pine cupboards. Plenty of storage.
Toilet and Bath: There is a pedal flush toilet (pump-out) with a large holding tank and a 3 quarter bath with shower. There is a pedestal sink too.
Boat Safety: Exp Oct 2028
Last blacked: July 2020 - with a deposit of 5% I will have her taken out of the water and blacked at Bristol Marina. You can also have a hull survey at this time (purchaser pays for that)
New anodes: all replaced in 2020, to be replaced in 2030 or thereabouts
In 2022 I built a cratch cover and installed bench seating with foldable table on the foredeck. The gas bottles are kept in a locker in the prow.
Moored in Bristol Centre, 5 mins walk from Temple Meads. Currently on a Leisure mooring, with the chance of applying for a Residential mooring . The mooring is potentially transferrable, via a waitlist.
Priced to reflect the fact it is a bit rough and ready. It is ready to move onto and live in as a comfortable off grid live aboard though. Viewings welcome, weekdays late morning til early afternoon is best. Trouper is a five minute walk from temple meads train station, 10-15 minutes from the city centre.
