A partially renovated wide beam Dutch Sailing Barge, in need of a romantic soul to bring her back to her former glory. Built in Rotterdam as a cargo vessel in 1896, fitted out as a luxury yacht in 1921, and then again as a live-aboard in the ‘90s. Bought in 2016 as a project boat, but we now to move on due to the project leader becoming a father! Hull completely over-plated in mild steel in 2018 by Jake Harris of Southeast Marine Engineering to a high standard. Much of the 1921 fit-out removed piece by piece, marked and preserved in storage. Unusual to find a tjalk of this age and size in the UK still with mast. Original and character features include mast, solid bronze helm pedestal, searchlights, original ship’s bell, brass portholes and windows, and anchor mechanisms – albeit all in need of overhaul / replacement. Appears in Lloyd’s yacht register from 1936-1978 - previous owners include the Horniman family and a WW2 RAF hero. Raced across the Channel in 1960s, featured on a pub sign. Tons of room inside; great sweep to coach roof, beautiful line all over. Missing rudder, and leeboards in a poor state. The engine room and bilges require cleaning and painting. The engine needs overhaul or replacement. A lot of welding still required above the gunwales, including coach roof, and needs a total overhaul of electrics and water, but the hardest and most expensive portion of the work is done! Lots of potential for refit if desired - large first cabin could easily become a living room/dining room. An amazing boat, will turn any head in any marina when restored.
Long term mooring where you can live on board in lovely marina fully paid until May 2025 and on hard standing at no extra cost while work takes place. Insured.
The barge will be bought “sold as seen” and any buyer needs to undertake their own inspection.
