85ft Thames Sailing Barge Ardwina, a timber hull and decks
Traditional spritsail rig, with wooden leeboards.
Built by Orvis & Fuller of Ipswich,1909, (the last Barge built in Ipswich).
Converted to a barge yacht in 1959, then refitted in 1970 and again in 1989/90.
Her present owners acquired her in 1980, she has been raced and sailed and was the Champion Barge in 1982. Owned by a firm of Architects she has been used for corporate events and entertaining for static events and trips on the river,
She could entertain up to 12 passengers, when sailing. when alongside (static) she could comfortably entertain up to 50 persons.
Her regular moorings have been in Ipswich and presently in St Katharine's Dock in London.
The last survey was undertaken in dry dock in Maldon, July 2021. A programme of works, has to be undertaken before she will be credited with her sailing Exemption Certificate for carrying customers. She is now out of code and effectively insured as a private barge yacht. July 2022
She would make a comfortable home, afloat. full of original features and fittings. A real piece of industrial maritime history.

Well fitted out below. Comfortable accommodation for 12 passengers ( when required). A large saloon / dining room ( capacity for 20 persons seated at an extendable dining table). Comfy settee seating under her side decks.
Generous headroom 6ft 4ins under the hatch boards ceiling. Paint and varnished finish. Beautiful solid planked wooden floor (sealing) varnished finish.
4 cabins : 1 double en suite 3 cabins with 2 single bunks
1 x electric toilets with black tank.( plus 1 x electric sea toilet)
2 x Showers, pressurised Hot and Cold water system.
Commercial gas and electric hob and double oven.
Galley sink x 2, plus small hand wash basin.
A Bar area integral to the saloon.

Construction

Wooden hull, flat bottomed,internal I-beam keelson, pair wooden leeboards.
Robust timbers and frames, Double skinned.Black painted finish
Ongoing work schedule of repair and replacement.
Her framing is of considerable size and much has now been replaced
with new timbers
The Barge was originally built to carry loads in excess of 150 tons, no longer carrying cargo. Less physical stress is put on the structure.
Much of the deck has been replaced with Iroko planks Sikaflex in the seams, blue painted finish.

A six-cylinder Leyland Tempest, 6 cylinder, naturally aspirated, water cooled
diesel fuelled engine, 120hp indirectly cooled via heat exchanger, oil driven PRM gear box 2:1. Dedicated engine room
Flexible mounts on steel fabricated beds fastened to timber bearers over
floors. Shaft driven connected via a constant velocity drive.
