De Tijd Zal Leren
De Tijd Zal Leren is a 1926 luxemotor dutch barge, built in Martenshoek with a riveted iron hull 55ft x 10ft, powered by a ford lehman D4 diesel engine.
One of the things we love about De Tijd Zal Leren is its fascinating history. For example, it was made and used as a working barge in Holland to move food produce, where the captain Dirk Hoogland and his wife A. Hoogland-Bakker lived and worked on it through the years. During the bombardment of the railway bridge in Heerhugowaard on the 3rd March 1943, Dirk Hoogland was fatally struck by a bullet from an english aircraft while sailing on De Tijd Zal Leren.
It was reduced in length by 10 metres when turned into a houseboat and fitted with a new engine, we believe, in 1986. The boat now has a traditional yet bright exterior and has been completely updated inside. It is a very capable boat due to its powerful engine, large rudder and hull shape which fills you with confidence when cruising.
Since owning the boat for the past six years, me and my partner have lived on the Kennet and Avon moving between Bristol and Devizes. I have had no issues mechanically, it starts every time, we have lived on a continuous cruiser licence and moved every few weeks. During the winter, it is warm and cosy with the central log burner and in the summer we love sitting on the large stern under the shade of the canopy, perfect for BBQs.
We have decided we want to move south and it is time for a change so I am selling the boat. De Tijd Zal Leren consists of, starting at the bow, a very large storage locker, double bedroom, living area and kitchen, washroom, entrance space, engine room and finally a big stern storage space. The boat is in very good condition inside and out and ready to be taken on by a new owner.
