| Wanted, an historic ship/barge full of character to bring up our young family on. Must be an ex-working vessel and a fully functioning ship with working engine (no static houseboats). Ship must be built pre-1965 and retain its original external working appearance.
Considering all options from motor barges/ sailing barges to fishing vessels and passenger boats, but must have flat bottom/ rounded hull. Length, anything from 20m to 26m, with a max beam of 6.5m and max draft of 1.8m. Will consider a project. We are willing to travel to anywhere in the UK and mainland Europe to view suitable ships. 39m x 6.8 m beam, 2m draft. German Coaster built in 1950. This is a beautiful little ship. 265 HP M.W.M. engine which was rebuilt in 1980 with a new tailshaft and bearings added at the same time. With less than 100 hours running time used since then. Holds an excellent current survey in Oct 2008, when it was dry docked for minor repaired and 20 new annodes added. This boat has the beauty of a double bottom of 6mm steel in the hold area.
Boat has been fully re-painted using Jotul marine paint. 4 solar panesl for free hot water in the summer months. 400 watt U.S.A wind turbine for charging 2 new banks of 24 volt batteries.
She has seperate living accomodation in what was the original crew quarters, with 1 double bedroom, large front room with small log burner, galley, toilet/wet shower room. Oil fired central heating. Will add dimensions asap.
The hold is converted using nearly all reclaimed timber, and includes substantial wooden beams, giving it an olde world appeal. It is an enormous space (75 feet x 22.3 feet) with potential for more conversion. I have added a wooden floor above one section, (main bedroom and bathroom area) which is the grandchildrens' camp at the moment, but is in place ready for an upward extension. Huge living room area.
The hold also contains my workshop, (20 feet x 22 feet) which also has a wooden floor added (again for a projected upward extension, but is used for storage right now). Workshop contains a table saw and chop saw, tools and lots of wood which will all come with the boat.
This boat is ideal for a large family with a granny flat if required, but its potential is endless. (b&B, nightclub, holistic retreat etc.) She has been featured in T.V. programmes, and has recently been used in an interior design magazine

This is a regrettable sale, but we need to downsize now that the family has left home, and only the 2 of us live on her. We love this boat, and it is a fantastic home. Joli Coeur is a 24 meter converted sea-going Tjalk. The hull dates from 1904 and the conversion was professionally done in Maastricht in 1982. Her original owner, a professional barge captain, designed and supervised the conversion and then lived aboard year round for the next 20 years.
There are two double staterooms each with a queen-size berth. The master cabin is forward and a generous guest cabin is aft beneath the wheelhouse. Each has a substantial built-in wardrobe with additional storage beneath the berths.
The galley has the usual modern appliances including dishwasher, under counter 220v and propane refrigerator, 4 burner propane stove, and a 3-way conventional, convection, and microwave oven. There is seating for 2 at the galley table.
The saloon is huge and is furnished in French country antique furniture. Must be seen! There is a “French day bed” in the saloon, which can be used for an additional berth.
Forward of the saloon is the toilette to Starboard, a standard Dutch “direct discharge” unit. There is a small sink also. To Port, there is a bathroom with tub/shower and vanity with storage behind the mirror and beneath the counter. There are separate washer and drier in the bathroom.
The ship has a unique “back porch” aft of the wheelhouse with covering awning and a table for four with chairs. The access to the porch is directly out the door at the back of the wheelhouse. Very convenient.
Propulsion is with a DAF 575t, 130 hp turbo diesel. In addition, there are two generators, a 6 kw Vetus in a silencing box and a back-up unit of 8 kw which is noisy but valuable in reserve. There is central heat from a diesel fired furnace and radiators, and the system is set up to enable heating of water by the engine, furnace, and electric. There are 4 8D house batteries in good condition and the charger is a Vetus combi Phoenix with inverter.
There is excessive tankage as ballast is largely drinking water, 40,000 liters! There is fuel tankage of approximately 2,750 liters in a single tank.
This barge is ready to go and is presently cruising in Burgundy. The price is all-inclusive with everything included.
